NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - Severe weather tore through Kentuckiana late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning. The high winds knocked trees over causing them to land on Floyd County Jail in New Albany.

Stranded in cold weather tips from Indaina State Police

FLOYD COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - With the sub-freezing temperatures expected for the next few days, a vehicle that becomes disabled can make for a life or death situation for the driver and passengers.
Indiana State Police give these tips you can follow that could save your life:
•     Before you leave, check the weather forecast and let someone know your route of travel.
•     Always keep your gas tank full when driving in cold weather.
•     Carry a winter survival kit in your car to include: blankets, flashlight, extra batteries, brightly colored cloth, sand or a bag of cat litter, shovel, candles and matches, non perishable high calorie foods, (nuts, raisins, and candy bars), newspapers (for insulation), a first aid kit and jumper cables.
•     Do not leave your car should you become stranded; it is your best protection.

Curbside garbage collection will not be collected today

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - Curbside garbage collection by Southern Indiana Waste Systems, New Albany's contracted waste hauler, will not be collected today due to inclement weather conditions, the company said this morning.
