Kendle and Hobbs collect additional postseason honors

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Postseason honors for Bellarmine University basketball players Jeremy Kendle and Braydon Hobbs continue to grow. Kendle has been named to two additional All America teams, earning First Team honors from the Division II Bulletin and Second Team honors from Basketball Times. Hobbs received honorable mention honors for the DII Bulletin All-America team.

2011 Tailgate Tour Schedule Released

STARLIGHT, IN (WAVE) – Today, the IU Varsity Club and IU Alumni Association released the schedule for the annual IU Athletics Tailgate Tour. The 2011 tour will kick off with an event May 18 in Indianapolis featuring new IU football coach Kevin Wilson.
 
“I am excited to kick off the tour this year,” said Wilson. “Our staff is very fortunate to be here, and we look forward to visiting our fans across the state and talking some IU Football.”
 
The Tailgate Tour is an opportunity for Hoosier fans to support IU Athletics and learn about the success of student-athletes both on and off the field. It also allows IU’s head coaches to provide insights on the 2011-12 athletic seasons. 
 

Derby Festival Pro-Am Tees Off TODAY

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2011 King Southern Bank Derby Festival Foundation Pro-Am Golf Tournament will benefit The First Tee of Louisville for the third year in a row. The First Tee is an organization dedicated to providing young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop life-enhancing values such as confidence, perseverance and judgment through golf and character education. The Pro-Am Golf Tournament, which will be held TODAY (Monday, April 18) at Chariot Run Golf Course in Southern Indiana, is open to the public and includes lunch, golf with a local professional, a cocktail reception, silent auction and gifts.

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - The New Albany Little League Softball program is celebrating their second year as a chartered member of Little League. We have added a new division named The Challenger Division. This division was developed for the youth in the community who face physical and mental challenges. They are excited to kick off this new division!

Hoops for Heroes 2011

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - The Frank C. Denzinger Lodge 171 and Hoops for Heroes is proud to announce the fourth annual Hoops for Heroes Charity Basketball Tournament. In 2011, the tournament will feature local police, fire and military teams competing at Christian Academy – Southern Indiana Campus on April 9, 2011.

The double elimination tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the Championship game will be at 6:00 p.m. Opening Ceremonies will be held with a prayer and national anthem at 10:00 a.m.

Participating Departments:  Floyd County Police, New Albany Police, New Albany Fire and Rescue, Louisville Metro Corrections, Floyd County Corrections, Rural Metro EMS, Louisville Fire and Rescue, U.S. Army Reserve, Jeffersonville Fire Department, Harrison County Police and Fire, Jeffersonville Police Department, and the Clark County Sheriff’s Department.

IU Southeast Cheerleaders Win Third-Straight National Championship

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - The IU Southeast cheerleading team won its third consecutive national championship at the Cheer Ltd. Open College Nationals.

The IU Southeast cheerleaders captured the national championship in the All-Girl Medium Collegiate Division over Rend Lake College on Saturday (3/19) evening.

Biddy Basketball a Blast at OLPH

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - Sports are alive and well at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in New Albany. OLPH is just beginning their Biddy Basketball season for children grades pre-K through second.

This year with the cutbacks in local public schools sporting programs, recreational sports like Biddy Ball, have seen an increase in participants. Participants practice once a week and have games on Sunday afternoon. It is a great way to learn the value of teamwork in a fun and exciting way. All kids get a chance to play as they rotate players on the court every four minutes in four eight minute quarters.
