New Albany Little League Softball hosts 2nd annual Golf Scramble

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - New Albany Little League Softball will host their 2nd annual Golf Scramble on Saturday, July 16 at Wooded View Golf Course, 2404 Greentree Blvd , North. Registration beings at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

An awards reception and lunch will follow the scramble. There will be a hole-in-one contest sponsored by Coyle Chevrolet. The winner will receive a New 2011 Chevrolet Cruze! There will also be placement prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. More prizes will be awarded for last place, closest to the hole and  the longest drive. Players must be present to win.

SELLERSBURG, IN (WAVE) - Fuzzy Zoeller’s Covered Bridge Golf Club is hosting the 3rd annual Scramble Fore Life to benefit A Woman’s Choice Resource Center and Necole’s Place. Bring your clubs and golfing friends and meet some new ones at either a morning or afternoon flight. Lunch, goody bags, and a chance to win door prizes will be provided to all golfers.
 
“We’ve received a great deal of support from individuals and our local business community this year”, commented Monica Henderson, Executive Director of A Women’s Choice Resource Center and Necole’s Place. “Their partnership is integral to the work that we do.”

Mercy Providence hosts 10th annual Chuck Schultz Memorial Golf Scramble

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – Mercy Providence is hosting the 10th annual Chuck Schultz Golf Scramble. The event will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at Covered Bridge Golf Course (12510 Covered Bridge Road, 47172) in Sellersburg.

Registration begins at 12 p.m. and the first tee off is at 1 p.m.  Dinner will follow the tournament.

Carriage Ford will donate a 2011 Ford Fusion to the golfer that hits a hole-in-one on Hole #8.  Cash prizes and gifts will also be awarded for 1st and 2nd place, as well as longest drive, putt, and more.

Duke and Fowler Named 2011 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – Juniors Kayla Duke and Anne Fowler have been named 2011 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Duke, the KIAC Pitcher of the Year and Male High School grad, led the Grenadiers with 14 wins this season.

Catcher Anne Fowler was also honored with the award.  Fowler, a Louisville native, started 44 of 48 games and helped lead the Grenadiers to a 34-20 record.

326 softball student-athletes have been named 2011 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes. In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Denney and Wisman Named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – Senior Adam Denney and junior Kelsey Wisman have been honored as  2011 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Denney, a Bedford, Ind. native, is one of 96 men’s tennis players who have been honored as Scholar-Athletes this season. Wisman, a Floyds Knobs native and Floyd Central graduate, is one of 126 women’s tennis players who have been named 2011 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Strong announces camp dates

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - University of Louisville head football coach Charlie Strong and his staff are offering five camps in the month of June to kids of all ages. Strong and his staff will provide quality instruction to kids of all ages in preparation for the upcoming football season. Anyone interested in signing up should contact the Louisville football office at 502-852-6325. Below are the dates and times for the upcoming camps.

Junior Cardinal Camp I: June 8-10, $175. A football camp for young athletes with beginners skills. The camp includes three days of personal attention and football fundamental instruction from the Louisville coaching staff. This DAY CAMP will run from 9 a.m. -4 p.m. daily. Campers need to wear shorts, t-shirts and tennis shoes or football cleats. 

Cardinal Mini Camp I: (For Athletes Entering the 9th-12 grade as of fall of 2011)
June 11-12, Overnight Camp $150; Day/Commuter Camp $100; Single Day Option (6/11 or 6/12) $50.  Campers receive two days of expert, personal instruction at their position from the Louisville coaching staff. Sessions focus on skill development for all positions on offense and defense. Note: Linemen should bring shoulder pads and helmets.

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - Join us for a day filled with games, food, fun and friendship! Register for door prizes & play 50/50. Enjoy face painting, games, a Velcro wall and inflatables! Purchase your NALLS apparel at our merchandise table and then enjoy lunch at our new concession stand! Bud will be grilling his famous pork chop sandwiches! Participate in the first NALLS Aquafina & Major League Pitch, Hit & Run Competition which is open to all boys and girls ages 7-14.

Appreciation day is Saturday, May 14 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Ballgames begin at 10:00 a.m. at the NALL Softball Complex located at 4811 Grant Line Road, New Albany, IN 47150 – behind Grant Line Elementary School. There is no entry fee to play. 

NALLS is a non-profit organization and all monies raised will be used to support the league which includes over 300 girls plus our new Challenger League.
