Marathon and mini Marathon registration opening in August

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – On your mark, get set and go register for the 2012 Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and mini Marathon.

Registration opens August 8 and will be capped at a combined 18,000 entrants, up from 15,000 in 2011.

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - The IU Southeast volleyball team announced its recruiting class for the 2011 season on Thursday.

The seven incoming freshmen include five local players-four Louisville-area signees and a player from Sellersburg, Ind.

The group is highlighted by middle-blocker Sara Schum of Holy Cross High School in Louisville, defensive specialist Kristen Newberry of Mercy Academy in Louisville and outside-hitter Kristyn Maymon of Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, Ind.  Maymon is the sister of junior Lindsey Maymon, who was third on the team in kills last season.

Southern Indiana Baseball Association’s announces registration for high school fall league

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - High school students are invited to register for the fall baseball season with SIBA which runs August 20 through October 15. Games will be played at Shannon Memorial Park, Jeffersonville, IN on Saturdays and Sundays. Registrations will be accepted on a first come first served basis.

IU Southeast gets 2 new dance coaches

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) -  Two new coaches have been hired to lead the IU Southeast dance team.

Elizabeth Wooden and Alicia Corcoran-Scott will begin their positions starting immediately.

"We are very excited to have Elizabeth and Alicia join our athletic family," said IU Southeast Athletic Director Joe Glover. "They bring a wealth of experience and talent to our program and we are very lucky to have them to take our dance team to the next level."

Wooden is a 2005 graduate of Ball State University where she was a member of the Code Red Dance Team.

IU Southeast Women’s Basketball announces signees and verbal commitments

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – The IU Southeast women’s basketball has released its list of new signees and verbal commitments to the program for the 2011-12 season.

The Grenadiers will add nine players to the roster that is coming off of a record-setting 2010-11 season. The Grenadiers went 27-6 last season and set a school-record with 16 consecutive wins. 

The new additions include Floyd Central graduate Morgan Rookstool, a 5-11 forward, and three Louisville-area signees. Heather Wheat, a 5-6 guard from Butler High School in Louisville, KY, Meagan Cureton, a 5-9 guard from Butler High School, and Shavonne Jackson, a 5-8 forward from Southern High School. The Grenadiers have also signed two sophomore transfers, 5-4 guard Brooke Willoughby from the University of Louisville and 5-8 forward Briana Palmer from Marian University.

“Katie is a great fit for our program because she has played for many years and has great knowledge of the game,” IU Southeast head coach Lesley Drury-Prather said.  “I am very excited to be working with her this year.”
