Frankfort, Ky. – The Kentucky State Parks will be ready for the winter holidays this year with special meals, decorations, candlelight tours, entertainment and other special events planned.

State parks are a great place for holiday gatherings in November and December. All 17 resort parks have restaurants, meeting areas and gift shops that offer unique gift ideas. That includes Kentucky Unbridled Spirit gift cards, which are valid at Kentucky State Parks, the Kentucky Horse Park, the Kentucky Historical Society and the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

Many state resort parks will also hold New Year’s Eve parties and dinners Dec. 31.

Frankfort, Ky. - The Mammoth Cave Railroad Bike and Hike Trail is being connected with the Park City Bicycle and walking path. This will increase the total length of the trail to 10 miles and provide a great route for trail users to connect to the national park. The Kentucky Rails to Trails Council works to provide trail opportunities like this all over Kentucky. Find out about more about Kentucky Rails to Trails at www.kyrailtrail.org

Traveling west to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, trail users will be excited to try out the newly created Central Hardwoods Scenic Trail. This trail totals a little over 11.5 miles and has seven access points so users can tailor their experience.

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN – Greater Clark County Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Derek Ellis as the new Jeffersonville High School varsity baseball coach. Mr. Ellis has been involved with the Jeffersonville High School baseball program as an assistant coach and advisor since 2008. Jeffersonville High School Director of Athletics Lisa Stemler stated, “There were a lot of quality candidates for this position and I believe Coach Ellis will be a great fit for the Jeffersonville High School baseball program.”
 

Derek Ellis is a Jeffersonville High School graduate and former Indiana State University baseball team captain and starting shortstop. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from ISU in 1989. Mr. Ellis was the manager of the 2008 Little League World Series Team from Jeffersonville, Indiana (Great Lakes).

Floyd Memorial Hospital and Tumbleweed join forces for Special Olympics

 

New Albany, IN - On Tuesday, November 13 from 5 to 8 p.m., 10 Floyd Memorial Hospital associates, ranging from a vice president, to nursing staff, to an IT manager, will act as “celebrity servers” at Tumbleweed on State Street in New Albany to raise funds for Special Olympics Indiana. 

During the Celebrity Server night event, all server tips will be donated to Special Olympics, a silent auction and raffle will take place and $1 from every Double Barrel Brownie Dessert sold will all go to Special Olympics Indiana, with the goal of raising over $2,000.

IU Southeast to host KIAC Men’s and Women’s Final Four

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the Indiana University Southeast will host the semifinals and championship rounds of the 2013 KIAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball tournaments.

In a press release IU Southeast Athletic Director Joe Glover said, “We are very excited to host the semifinals and championship games of the KIAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments.  This is a great event and we are glad to bring the tournaments back to our local Southern Indiana community. We hope our community will embrace this event. There is no doubt these tournaments will help add to our rich basketball tradition in the state of Indiana.”

The last time IU Southeast hosted the tournaments was in 2006.

Tournament Dates:
- Feb. 21 - Play-In Game between two lowest-seeded teams (at campus sites)
- Feb. 23 - First Round @ higher seeds (at campus sites)
- Feb.

Undefeated Highland Hills boys tennis team sweeps tournament

The Highland Hills Middle School Boys Tennis Team from Georgetown, IN swept the annual Clark-Floyd Tournament at Jeffersonville High School on Saturday, September 29.

Playing singles, Presley Thieneman, Chris Boone and Reed Plunkett won all of their matches. Playing doubles, Carson Bohling & Kyle Poe, Wyatt Lee & Nick Winchell, Alex Poe & Ryan Shean won all of their matches as well. 

The team finishes the season undefeated with an 11-0 record.

NEW ALBANY, IN - October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

The New Albany Floyd County Animal Shelter is partnering with several area organizations to celebrate  October’s national designation as “Adopt A Shelter Dog Month”. They will be holding a month long 'Dogtoberfest Celebration'. The kickoff will be part of 'New Albany’s Live At Five' on Friday, September 28th in downtown New Albany. Music will be provided by Wax Factory, a local pop/rock band, and food and drink will be provided by area vendors. Our Dogtoberfest Partner, The Exchange, will be there with Beer Cheese samples.  The Shelter will be attending with the Wags and Whiskers Wagon between 5 and 7PM with adoptable animals in tow.
