Louisville Slugger to unveil new product line this weekend

LOUISVILLE, KY - For the first time, Louisville Slugger® will introduce its all-new, reinvented 2013 bat product line simultaneously at 67 locations nationwide. The complete line of bats can be seen at the Louisville Slugger Museum on Saturday February 9th between 12 - 4 p.m.

The baseball line-up includes the Attack, Exogrid3 and Omaha Balanced models featuring innovative technologies like flex-band and the patented T2 breakthrough for 2-piece composite bats. These bats are being swung by the best players in baseball at every age level, including Louisville Slugger’s many collegiate programs like UNC, Stanford, Oklahoma, Rice, Florida State, University of Louisville and the defending National Champion Arizona Wildcats.

PAOLI, IN - With the recent blast of Arctic air, Paoli Peaks has been able to make snow in near record quantities. Snow making began at approximately 4:00am Monday morning, and has continued non-stop since then, allowing for heavy snow coverage on the entire resort. The majority of the trails have seen an additional 2 feet of snow from the recent snowmaking efforts, and some areas have seen as much as 5 feet of additional snow. This allows for contours to form on the trails in areas that are typically uniform.

With flurries expected throughout the day today, and accumulating snowfall forecast for Friday morning, Paoli Peaks expects conditions this weekend to be some of the best in recent memory.

"We are taking advantage of the current cold snap to make as much snow as possible. I couldn't ask for better conditions to pump snow out on the trails", says Matt Grenier, Paoli Peaks General Manager.

LOUISVILLE, KY - The future stars of college basketball will play in the Red State Blue State series, giving Kentucky and Louisville fans a chance to preview the top talent before they arrive on college courts. Highly touted recruiting targets will compete against top teams in two games at the Kentucky Exposition Center.

The first game, St. Joseph (New Jersey) vs. Ballard (Kentucky), will be February 2, at 3 p.m. in Broadbent Arena. Whitney Young (Illinois) vs. Evangelical Christian (Tennessee) will play immediately after at 4:30 p.m.

The second date of the series, Montverde (Florida) vs. Huntington Prep (West Virginia) will be March 3 at 4 p.m. in Freedom Hall.

LOUISVILLE, KY - The University of Louisville has extended the contract of football coach Charlie Strong through 2020.

Strong, who was named the BIG EAST Coach of the Year for the second time in his tenure in 2012, has turned the Louisville program around in three seasons, going 25-14, guiding the team to a pair of BIG EAST titles and its third-straight bowl appearance, which featured a win over third-ranked Florida in the 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl.

LOUISVILLE, KY - The Louisville Sports Commission has announced that former Green Bay Packers’ quarterback and NFL Hall of Famer Bart Starr will be the guest speaker at the Paul Hornung Awards Banquet presented by KentuckyOne Health. The banquet will be held Feb. 15 at The Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville honoring Tavon Austin of West Virginia, the 2012 Paul Hornung Award winner.

“Bart Starr is one of the all-time great football players in the history of the NFL,” Hornung said of his former teammate. “He was the proto-type Vince Lombardi quarterback – smart, tough and athletic with nerves of steel. Bart played his position so well that he made everyone on the field better.”

“Bart is one of the finest men I’ve ever known and a talented speaker.

NEW ALBANY, IN – IU Southeast volleyball coach Lesley Drury-Prather resigned after four years in the position, the IU Southeast athletic department recently announced.


Drury-Prather led the Grenadiers to four-straight KIAC Tournament semifinals.  She concludes her career at IU Southeast with a record of 81-63 (.562).  She never had a losing record in her four seasons as head coach.
The Grenadiers finished the 2012 season with a 17-15 record.  They fell to eventual KIAC champion IU East 3-0 in the KIAC semifinals.

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville football program is teaming up with Margaret's Moving and Storage and Toys for Tots this holiday season, and are asking Cardinal fans for their help in donating toys.

Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to the last home game of the season, against Connecticut on November 24. Margaret's Moving and Storage Truck will have boxes located in Street Fest and at each gate for fans to donate toys to this excellent cause.

Toys for Tots will give the toys to families in Louisville who cannot afford to provide their families with toys for the Christmas holiday.
